Meet the Clinical Team

 

Dwain R. Faso, CO, LO, FAAOP
is the Clinical Orthotist for the STAR Cranial Center of Excellence in Dallas, Texas. Dwain received a Bachelor's degree in Special Education and Elementary Education from State University College at Buffalo and a Certificate in Orthotics from Northwestern University.
He is a Licensed Orthotist in the State of Texas, a Certified Orthotist by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, Inc., as well as a past president of the Board, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists.

Dwain has worked in the orthotic industry for the past 25 years in patient care, management, research and development, sales/marketing and teaching. He has completed training as a Cranial Remolding Orthosis Specialist and has treated infants exclusively with STAR cranial remolding orthoses using the STARscanner Laser Data Acquisition System.

 

Laura Plank, CO
has been involved in plagiocephaly-related research and presented in national and international arenas. In 2004, she was invited to participate as a clinical expert in the Consensus Conference of Orthotic Treatment of Deformational Plagiocephaly, Brachycephaly and Scaphocephaly hosted by the AAOP. Her journal publications include: ³The Presentation of Deformational Plagiocephaly² JPO, and ³Comparison of Infant Head Shape Changes in Deformational Plagiocephaly following Treatment with a Cranial Remolding Orthosis using a Non-invasive Laser Shape Digitizer² J of Craniofac Surg. She is a member of ACPOC, the AAOP, and the AAOP Craniofacial Society.

Prior to becoming the Cranial Remolding Specialist at the STAR Cranial Center of Excellence, Laura was instrumental in developing and leading one of the largest cranial remolding programs in the country within a prominent pediatric hospital. See has evaluated and treated over a thousand children with head shape abnormalities stemming from plagiocephaly, cranio-facial disorders, and post-op synostosis. In fact, one of Laura¹s own children was successfully treated with a STARband cranial remolding orthosis.

Darren Poidevin CPO, LPO
is a licensed and American Board for Certification (ABC) accredited Prosthetist and Orthotist, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics from Florida International University.  Darren has over 15 years of specialized experience in pediatric patient management programs, including cranial remolding orthoses for plagiocephaly and post operative intervention.  As an expert, Darren has provided training, as well as, lectures for post operative cranial remolding treatment for the Endoscopic Treatment of Craniosynostosis sponsored by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, TX, Division of Neurosurgery and Plastic Surgery Department.  In addition to currently serving as the National Clinical Operations Manager for the Star Cranial Center of Excellence, he actively evaluates and treats patients at the San Antonio, TX office for plagiocephaly and other head shape abnormalities.  Darren also continues to lecture nationally to increase awareness for head shape abnormalities and cranial remolding orthosis treatment. 

Lisa Hewitt, CP
Lisa is a Cranial Remolding Specialist for the STAR Cranial Center of Excellence in Columbia, MD.  She received a Bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine from Lynchburg College in Virginia, and a Certificate in Prosthetics from Century College in Minnesota.  She is also a Certified Prosthetist by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, Inc. 
Prior to joining the STAR Cranial Center, Lisa worked in Philadelphia where she was introduced to treating infants with cranial remolding orthoses utilizing the STARscanner and STARband helmet.  Her love for working with infants led her to pursue a career with the STAR Cranial Center.  In addition to completing training as a Cranial Remolding Specialist, Lisa has more than five years of specialized experience treating infants with the STARband cranial remolding orthosis. 

 


Leah Bowsher, CO

Leah Bowsher, CO is a Cranial Remolding Specialist at the STAR Cranial Center of Excellence in Columbia, Md. Leah received her bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Benedict in Psychology and Sports Medicine and completed post-graduate work in Orthotics at Century College. Leah has been certified since 2004 by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics , Prosthetics and Pedortics (ABC). Leah has spent her entire orthotic career working with the pediatric population.

 

 

Gregory Long CO, LO
Greg is certified by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and a Licensed Orthotist in the State of Florida. He is currently serving as the Clinical Services Manager of the Star Cranial Center of Excellence in Maitland, FL where he evaluates and treats infants with head shape deformities. Greg received his BS degree in Health Science from Daemen College and his Certificate in Orthotics from Northwestern University. He has over 8 years of experience in the field, working with both adult and pediatric patient populations in a variety of clinical settings. He has been specializing in treating infants with head shape deformities with cranial remolding orthoses since 2003.

 

Elizabeth “Libbi” Kuehl , CO
Libbi is a Cranial Remolding Specialist at STAR Cranial Center of Excellence in San Antonio, TX. She graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering and a German minor from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA. Libbi completed her orthotics certificate program at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, and then completed her orthotics residency at ABC Prosthetics & Orthotics in Orlando, FL. After becoming a certified Orthotist she moved to Marietta, GA where she was employed at CH Martin Company. There, she specialized in pediatric orthotics. Her interest in pediatrics led her to seek a career with the STAR Cranial Center of Excellence.

 

 

Tiffany Forest, CPO, LO, MSPO
Tiffany is a certified Prosthetist-Orthotist by the American Board for Certification in Prosthetics and Orthotics and licensed to practice in the state of Texas. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Science from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX in 2005 and her Master of Science Degree in Prosthetics & Orthotics from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2007. She has given two national lectures on orthotic education, two local lectures on orthotics and prosthetic education, and worked closely with the Trinity Engineering Department doing research and development. To date, Tiffany has focused her career in pediatric care, and because she enjoys providing cranial remolding orthosis treatment, she joined the STAR Cranial Center of Excellence as a STARband Cranial Remolding Specialist in 2010, serving the Dallas and Shreveport communities.

 

Melissa Cordial, BOCO
Melissa is certified in Orthotics by The Board of Certification/Accreditation, International. Melissa started in the field of Orthotics and Prosthetics in 2005 after graduating from Baker College of Michigan as a Technician. While living in her home state of Michigan, Melissa worked within a hospital setting, and was introduced to cranial remolding orthosis treatment. She quickly became involved in patient care, and while continuing the educational path from Technician, Orthotic Fitter, Licensed Orthotist Assistant, to a Certified Orthotic Practitioner (BOCO), her interest in cranial remolding grew, leading her to an opportunity with STAR Cranial Center. Melissa is currently heading up the newest STAR Cranial Center of Excellence in Shreveport Louisiana where she is treating infants exclusively with STAR cranial remolding orthoses using the STARscanner Laser Data Acquisition System. Melissa’s passion for working within the pediatric population carries over from her personal life where she has cared for children with Autism and other disabilities for over 15 years.
