Ginger's Mom's Dilemma...
I had a tough time choosing between Star Cranial Center of Excellence and Cranial Tech, but I went with Star Cranial Center for these reasons:
3D scanning. No plaster casts, and I could get an accurate, 3D measurement of my child's progress at any time, including her follow-ups at the Children's hospital (they are in the same building and floor) after the helmet came off. It's also good to have these pictures and reports to help explain to grandparents and others who don't understand what the heck you are making your child do.
Nancy, the orthotist. It is as much a art as a science to sculpt those helmets to mold the skull. When we went, she was the only one - I didn't have to worry about being shuffled around by different people. I don't know if that is still the case today.
It also helped that they have good administrative people. They got our helmet almost 3/4 paid for by insurance, even though we were quoted a much lower number when we first called ourselves.
You do get to choose a decorative finish, which makes it look much less clinical when you are out and about. I know Cranial Tech has a whole culture in getting parents to decorate your own, but my kid had other health issues and that was one more thing I didn't have time to do.
I would choose Star Cranial Center without hesitation if I had to make that choice again.
