Triplet's Seek Creative Funding...
When the Serna triplets were born in May of 2006, their parents quickly realized they had encountered a problem commonly associated with multiple births. Cramped quarters in the womb had caused all three babies to have unique forms of plagiocephaly, or head shape deformities. After the Sernas realized their babies’ problems wouldn’t disappear on their own, they decided to seek treatment at The Fogelson Plastic Surgery and Craniofacial Center for Children. Loa Borchert, a nurse at the Craniofacial Center for Children evaluated the babies, and then Dr. Hobar, Craniofacial Surgeon, referred the Serna triplets to the STAR Cranial Center of Excellence in Dallas for headband treatment.
Although deformational plagiocephaly can affect developmental skills, vision, and alignment of jaws and facial features, the Serna’s insurance company still considered the triplets’ conditions a cosmetic issue and opted not to cover treatment. In desperate need to pay for treatment --- times three, the Sernas turned to “Share a Smile”, a foundation that provides individuals with funding for various needs, to help fund the triplet’s treatment. We’re happy to say that the triplets will all be receiving headband treatment.
